When looking into online massage therapy schools you will want to know the places that employ massage therapists. Massage therapy is practiced in many places, such as spas, private massage, in-hospital patient treatment, for athletic and sports therapy and in combination with physical therapy and chiropractic treatment. A graduated therapist can work for someone else or be self-employed. It’s a popular profession. These programs are accredited or certified by professional organizations. And can lead to earning a certificate, diploma or an Associate’s degree. There are about 250,000-300,000 massage therapists in the United States alone and that number continues to grow everyday. 

So whether the program is for a diploma, certificate or degree, the coursework you take may include Biology I and II; Human Anatomy; Physiology I and II; Nutrition; Medical Terminology; Treatment Methods; Assessment; Clinical Internships, Kinesiology, First Aid; CPR; Pathology; Contraindications; Communication; Business and Legal Issues and specialization in any of the various modalities. And those would be soft tissue or sports massage. Most programs require a high school diploma or its equivalency because the Biology and English courses are absolutely necessary to be successful in massage therapy schooling. Acceptance and respect for this profession is certainly on the rise.
